Jenifer Maxson will bring her new one-woman show \u201cSkin in the Game\u201d to the Meeting House on Friday, October 23rd at 7:30 p.m.\u00a0 This performance is free, but seating is very limited to allow social distancing.\u00a0 Reservations are required at \u00a0info@jamesportmeetinghouse.org<\/a> or 631-722-5170.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe piece itself is irreverent but respectful–relevant, real and at least 51% funny,\u201d according to Masxon.\u00a0 \u201cIt tracks the beginning of my \u2018rude awakening,\u2019 some fifteen years ago, to my own accidental racism–my unconscious embrace of the invisible doctrine\u00a0 of \u201cwhite privilege\u201d that, one way or another, continues to enslave us all, and includes my dawning recognition that I probably had to do something about it.\u00a0 \u2018Skin in the Game\u2019 is what I\u2019ve done.\u201d<\/p>\n

Maxson is a retired English\/Language Arts instructor and drama director at Shelter Island School.\u00a0 She has directed and\/or appeared in numerous community theatre productions throughout Long Island.\u00a0\u00a0 She has also written four other original one-woman shows and performed them widely on both forks.<\/p>\n

Last December, she brought a memorable reading of Charles Dickens\u2019s \u2018A Christmas Carol\u2019 to the Meeting House.\u00a0 She kept those of us privileged to be there on the edge of our pews.<\/p>\n
